Joanna

Joanna Miller

Prior to founding Miller Black Associates LLC, Joanna has more than 25 years of experience as a retained search consultant, including many years as a partner at Russell Reynolds Associates, Korn Ferry International and Horton International.

In addition to her search practice, she has also led a Management Assessment Practice. Joanna’s client work has mainly focused on senior staff positions in human resources, and other corporate functions in a variety of industries, including consumer products, financial services and not-for-profit.

Fluent in French in addition to English, Joanna has worked on a number of global and international assignments, especially in Europe. Joanna served on the global Board of Directors of the Association of Executive Search Consultants and was its Vice Chairman.

Prior to her executive recruiting career, Joanna was a corporate lending officer with Citibank and held a series of financial management positions at PepsiCo.

Educational credentials include an MBA from the Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia, where Joanna served on the Corporate Advisory Board for ten years; and a BA from Lake Forest College. Joanna has completed the Coaching Certification Program at Columbia University. She is a frequent speaker on issues related to talent acquisition and development.

In her spare time, Joanna is a runner, yoga practitioner, and sailor.

Pieter de Zwart

Pieter de Zwart is the Chief Operating Officer of Miller Black Associates LLC. His responsibilities include Finance, Tax, Legal, Information Technology and Human Resources. He assumed this role at the outset of the firm in 2010, helping Joanna Miller with the creation of Miller Black.

Previously, Pieter was the Chief Information of the United Nations development Program based in New York, where he contributed to the modernization of UNDP’s software programs.

Before joining the UNDP, Pieter worked for ten years for Thomson Multimedia, a Paris based $7 billion multinational in the consumer electronics industry. He joined Thomson as group financial director and one year later was appointed as the company’s Chief Information Officer.

Prior to Thomson, Pieter was with Medtronic, a leading Minneapolis based medical products company, initially as its international finance director and later as its chief financial officer of the company’s Paris based EMEA region. He had garnered his international finance knowledge and experience working for Olin Corporation and FMC Corporation in international finance and treasury.

After obtaining his law degree at the University of Utrecht, Netherlands, Pieter started his professional life as a young banker with Bank of America’s Amsterdam branch, followed by stints at the bank’s San Francisco headquarters and its Chicago regional office.

Pieter is fluent in English, Dutch and French. He is a passionate sailor (1968 Olympics) and an active skier and golfer.
